(Paris) The Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz took over from the Serbian Novak Djokovic the place of world No.1 after a show of force on Sunday in the final of the Indian Wells Masters 1000, according to the ranking published Monday by the ATP.

The 19-year-old Alcaraz had already sat on the roof of the tennis world in September 2022, after his victory at the United States Open.

He is now 260 points ahead of “Djoko”, absent in California because he has not been vaccinated against COVID-19, and who will also miss the Masters 1000 in Miami from Wednesday.

The Russian Daniil Medvedev, victim of Alcaraz on Sunday, gains a place despite his defeat and becomes 5th in the world.

The Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime is the other big winner of the week with a jump of four places (6th).

On the other hand, the American Taylor Fritz, defending champion in Indian Wells and beaten in the quarter-finals, slipped five places (10th).

Finally, an era is coming to an end for Rafael Nadal who leaves the top 10 for the first time in 18 years.

The Spaniard, co-holder of the record for Grand Slam victories won (22 with Djokovic) and injured since the Australian Open falls to 13th place. He was part of the elite of world tennis since April 2005.
