An arson suspect, Marco Antonio Rubio, 36, was recently apprehended on suspicion of igniting four fires in various locations throughout Santa Monica earlier this month. The incidents, which took place without any injuries, involved the use of a lighter and an aerosol can as the tools to start the fires, as reported by the Santa Monica Police Department.
The first fire was set near the 1000 block of Colorado Avenue, where Rubio allegedly lit a discarded pillow and some cardboard ablaze. Subsequently, he proceeded to ignite a discarded mattress on 16th Street and Michigan Avenue, followed by setting fire to a net on a little league batting cage at Memorial Park. The final fire was started on a parked vehicle in the 1500 block of 18th Street.
