(Soldeu) The Canadian Valérie Grenier concluded the alpine ski season with a third position on Sunday at the giant Soldeu (Andorra).

American Mikaela Shiffrin claimed an 88th World Cup victory, bettering her own record.

Norwegian Thea Louise Stjernesund took the second step of the podium.

” I feel good. It’s incredible. We fought with the girls on this second round. I hope to come back next year and do as well. I’m going back to the States, go to the beach for a bit, hope you come! “Launched Shiffrin, hilarious, at the microphone of the International Ski Federation (FIS) held by his fellow skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.

The 28-year-old skier is finishing a season of anthology that will have seen her surpass the World Cup victory records of her compatriot Lindsey Vonn (82), then Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark (86), a historic mark in alpine skiing.

Shiffrin relegated the competition far to win the overall World Cup for the 5th time (after 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022) with 2,206 points, the second best total of all time behind Slovenian Tina Maze’s record (2414 points in 2013).

The American, victorious in the small slalom and giant globes, was also crowned giant world champion in February in Méribel, in addition to two silver medals (super-G and slalom).

By the way, she became on Sunday the most successful skier in the history of the world circuit in giant (21 successes), ahead of the Swiss Vreni Schneider (20).

Back at the top after a few less easy years, she seems limitless and could amass a unique record in the years to come.
