All about Stuttgart | Gabriela Dabrowski s’inclined en double

(Stuttgart) Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her Brazilian partner Luisa Stefani were eliminated from the women’s doubles at the Stuttgart Tennis Open.

In the quarterfinals, Dabrowski and Stefani lost in two sets of 7-5, 7-6 (4) against the tandem of Chilean Alexa Guarachi and New Zealander Erin Routliffe.

Dabrowski and Stefani won only 45% of the points on their second serves, a performance well below the 80% success rate of their opponents in similar circumstances.

Dabrowski, who hails from Ottawa, is currently ranked seventh in women’s doubles.

The 31-year-old Dabrowski has 13 WTA Tour doubles titles but has yet to make the quarter-finals of a tournament this year.

Singles favorite Iga Swiatek defeated Zheng Qinwen 6-1, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals.

Swiatek was in his first game since the semi-finals in Indian Wells last month due to a rib injury. She missed the Miami Open and the Poland play-off in qualifying for the Billie Jean King Cup.

After enjoying a bye in the first round, Swiatek got off to a smooth start to his clay-court season. She easily won the first set before seeing Zheng erase a 1-3 deficit in the second set to level the odds at 4-4. Swiatek broke her rival’s serve in the next game, before closing the books on serve.

In the next round, Swiatek will face Czech Karolina Pliskova, who defeated Croatian Donna Vekic 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5).

For her part, the American Coco Gauff, sixth in the world, surrendered in front of Anastasia Potapova, 6-2, 6-3.

Potapova saved six break points and took advantage of three of Gauff’s 13 break points.

Gauff was participating in his first tournament since his separation from his coach Diego Moyano.

Meanwhile, Paula Badosa earned a quarter-final meeting with world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka with a 6-1, 6-2 win over fellow Spaniard Cristina Bucsa.
