After being arrested in Florida, he was taken into custody in South Carolina.

Alex Murdaugh, an embattled South Carolina lawyer, was taken into custody on Saturday by his family after he was accused of stealing millions of dollars worth of settlement cash from his ex-housekeeper.

According to Columbia’s Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center records, Murdaugh is listed in custody for obtaining property under false pretenses. There are two counts with a bond of $10,000 each.

Murdaugh (53 years old) was arrested in connection to the case on Thursday. After being released from a drug rehabilitation facility, Murdaugh was arrested in Orlando. Friday saw an extradition hearing.

After a “slip and fall” at Murdaugh’s home that eventually killed his housekeeper Gloria Satterfield, a court ruled that Murdaugh’s two adult sons should have received more $2.7 million in life insurance proceeds. Murdaugh reached an in-secret settlement for insurance, but none of the proceeds went to his children.

Richard Harpootlian Murdaugh’s lawyer said Friday on “Good Morning America” that he was “reconciled” to the fact that he is going to prison. He knows that. He is a lawyer.”

The state police are investigating claims that Murdaugh may have stolen millions from his former law firm. It was founded 100 years ago by his great-grandfather.

Murdaugh’s wife Maggie, 52, was found dead outside their Colleton County residence. Their son Paul, 22 was also killed. The case was not solved. Murdaugh was fatally shot on Sept. 4.

According to his legal team, Murdaugh was depressed trying to arrange his death so that his son would receive a $10 million policy.

Murdaugh is part of a well-respected South Carolina family that has produced many prosecutors and lawyers.
