Aldi continues its conquest of French territory. Since 2020, the hard-discount brand has been trying to establish itself on the French market and compete with the main companies in the sector such as Lidl.

Two years ago, the German company began its strategy by striking hard with the acquisition of more than 500 Leader Price stores. At the same time, a large-scale advertising campaign was launched. The process was underway and, since then, the distributor has not been idle.

In just over a year, nearly half of the supermarkets acquired from the Casino group had already completed their conversion, reports Linéaires, the magazine specializing in food distribution. At the end of 2021, the Aldi brand had 400 additional stores.

Despite its rapid expansion, the German distributor is having difficulty establishing itself on the French market. Thus, according to Kantar figures relayed by our colleagues, between the end of 2020 and August 2022, the number of Aldi points of sale in France increased from 888 to 1320.

At the same time, the brand’s market share only changed by 0.3 points, going from 2.4% to 2.7%. Despite this, the company has no plans to give up and plans to have 1,900 stores across France by 2030.

Thus, for this start of the 2022 school year, 14 new Aldi supermarkets will open their doors in France in September and October. Here is the list of the municipalities that will host them.
