Forty years after its release, the film Purple Rain and its soundtrack composed by Prince will be adapted into a musical.

Theater producer Orin Wolf made the announcement Monday, saying that author Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and director Lileana Blain-Cruz would participate in the project that will breathe new life into the work chronicling the emergence of a musician named The Kid in Minneapolis. No timeline has been revealed at this time.

Released in 1984, the musical film includes some of Prince’s biggest hits, including Purple Rain and When Doves Cry. The soundtrack of the feature film was also awarded the Grammy and Golden Globe awards in 1985.

Prince died in 2016. He was 57 years old.
