(Atlanta) The Atlanta Braves extended general manager Alex Anthopoulos’ pact until 2031 on Friday.

Anthopoulos has orchestrated long-term contracts with several of the organization’s top players.

The 46-year-old Montreal native was hired by the Braves after the 2017 season.

Atlanta won the World Series in 2021 and has won the division title every year since 2018.

Last year, the Braves led the major leagues with 104 wins, before being eliminated in the second round by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Anthopoulos thanked Braves CEO Terry McGuirk “for his continued support and trust. The Braves are an incredible organization and I am proud of the success we have achieved together,” he said in a statement.

“I am grateful to continue to lead baseball operations and work toward another World Series championship. »

His previous contract was announced in February 2020 and was set to last until the end of 2024.

Anthopoulos has built a group that seems destined for long-term success.

Ronald Acuna and several other key players signed long-term contracts.

The National’s Most Valuable Player in 2023, Acuna became the first player in MLB history with 40 home runs and 70 stolen bases in a season last year.

Austin Riley, Michael Harris, Matt Olson, Spencer Strider and Sean Murphy also have long-term contracts with the Georgia team.

“Alex and I have a wonderful working relationship,” McGuirk said, in a statement. I’ve been involved in baseball for a very long time and I know Alex’s track record is truly special. There is simply no one better at what they do. »

Before joining the Braves, Anthopoulos spent six years as general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays and two years as vice president of baseball operations for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
