(Nashville) The Tennessee Titans have fired head coach Mike Vrabel, who led the club for the past six seasons, after the team won only six of its last 24 games.

In a press release, Amy Adams Strunk, majority owner of the Titans, said she notified Vrabel of her decision Tuesday morning. She added that it was one of the hardest decisions she had ever made.

The announcement came some 24 hours after the team’s players collected their belongings, and without Vrabel meeting with media representatives. It was the first time in the team’s 27 seasons in Tennessee, since moving from Houston, that the head coach did not speak to reporters.

Vrabel was hired in January 2018 and posted a cumulative record of 56-48, including playoff games. Last week, he affirmed his desire to stay with the Titans in 2024, but in the process, he used an expletive to remind people how much he hated losing.

On December 6, 2022, Strunk fired general manager Jon Robinson in the midst of a seven-game losing streak that would eventually cost the Titans their third straight AFC South title.

In January 2023, Strunk made Ran Carthon the first Black general manager in the organization’s history, although his resources to improve the roster were limited.

Ultimately, Vrabel led a team that used the most players in the NFL in each of the last three seasons due to injuries.

The Titans finished Vrabel’s sixth campaign at the helm with a 6-11 record. They defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 28-20 on Sunday to deprive their section rivals of a second straight title.
