(Kapalua) A birdie at the 17th pennant allowed Chris Kirk to sign a final card of 65 (minus-8) enough to win The Sentry tournament on Sunday, the curtain-raiser to the new PGA season.
Kirk finished at 263 (under 29) to capture his sixth PGA title. He also got his hands on a prize pool of 3.6 million US dollars in a total purse of 20 million. He also qualified for the Masters Tournament.
Sahith Theegala (63) and Jordan Spieth (65) joined him in the lead on the back nine, but both players missed chances in the final pennants to finish one and two shots behind the champion, respectively.
Adam Hadwin had the best Canadian result with a score of 270 (minus-22), good for 14th place. His final round of 64 allowed him to jump 13 positions in the rankings.
Mackenzie Hughes (64) also had his best round on Sunday, finishing in 25th position at 272 (minus 20). Adam Svensson (68) claims a cumulative score of 274 (minus-18), just like his compatriot Corey Conners (67).
Nick Taylor (70) had to settle for 52nd out of 59 competitors with a total of 281 (minus-11).
The tournament featured 50 top golfers from the last FedEx Cup and other tournament winners.
