When was the last time you went to the Biosphere? That’s what I thought… We see it, it’s one of the symbols of Montreal, but we don’t go there. And yet, visiting the Biosphere on a snowy day is already an outing that is worth the detour via the yellow line. You should also allow time to stroll around, simply to admire the places and the views. And there are these exhibitions which address, in one way or another, nature and life. An example: in Ari Bayuaji’s workshop, we see how it is possible to “weave the ocean” using plastic threads found in the sea in Bali.
Why not take advantage of these few days off to visit a cultural center? Entrance is free, but check the times, which vary a lot. A word of advice: get out of your neighborhood. Make it an adventure! We recommend Water sync, presented at the Maison de la culture Janine-Sutto, until January 7. There are works by 12 artists, around water. All, under the direction of Alex Côté, a daring multidisciplinary artist who recovers his materials during riverbank cleaning to create strong works, which want to highlight this individual negligence which has collective consequences.
The major Riopelle retrospective, At the Crossroads of Times, presented at the Ottawa Museum of Fine Arts, concludes this year which marks the hundredth anniversary of this great artist, who died in 2002. The exhibition is exhaustive, perfectly recounts the journey, the upper trapper’s gait; his encounters over five decades. We discover periods where the artist’s work is different from what most of us know about him. We even present unpublished works there. Until April 7, 2024.
Several notable fall exhibitions continue during the holidays. Think about the Marisol retrospective at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (until January 21) and the creative workshops for the family; the Pussy Riot exhibition, Velvet Terrorism, at the Museum of Contemporary Art (until March 10 at Place Ville Marie); Wampum, beads of diplomacy, on these belts made by indigenous people from shell beads (until March 10 at the McCord Stewart Museum); or the exhibition dedicated to the St. Lawrence River, Echoes of the Shores (until March 3 at the Pointe-à-Callière Museum). This is the perfect opportunity to catch up with them over the holiday break!
