Double medalist in downhill and super-G until now, Alexis Guimond took advantage of the first giant slalom of the season in para-alpine skiing to obtain a silver medal in the standing category on Thursday at the Steinach World Cup. am Brenner, Austria.
The Gatineau clocked a time of 1 min 10.38 in the first run, then 1 min 10.37 in the second. He finished with a cumulative time of 2:20.75, 5.40 seconds behind the winner, Frenchman Arthur Bauchet. Switzerland’s Robin Cuche finished third (7.97 seconds).
“Today’s (Thursday) race was tough. The course was long and I worked hard to do two good rounds. I slipped a little on my hip in the second heat, but I didn’t lose too much time and managed to keep my second place,” Alexis Guimond shared with Alpine Canada.
The 24-year-old now has one gold, two silver and two bronze medals after the first downhill, super-G and giant slalom events on the calendar. He finished on the podium in his last 11 World Cup competitions.
“It’s great to be on the podium for the 11th time in a row. I’ve been playing on the circuit for a few years now and I think it’s a sign of maturity and experience. I am really happy to be consistent and I hope to continue like this,” we read in the press release from the Canadian federation.
The World Cup in Steinach am Brenner will end on Friday with the presentation of another giant slalom.
