(Ottawa) Six Quebecers will be part of the Canadian water polo team at the Aquatic Worlds in Doha in February.
Water Polo Canada announced on Wednesday the 15 players of the brigade for the event which will be held from February 2 to 18 in Qatar.
The country will aim to secure one of the last two places available for the Paris Olympic tournament.
The Canadian team will include Montrealers Floranne Carroll, Axelle Crevier, Daphné Guèvremont, Élyse Lemay-Lavoie and Clara Vulpisi as well as Serena Browne, from Pointe-Claire.
Y seront aussi Verica Bakoc (Toronto), Jessica Gaudreault (Ottawa), Shae La Roche (Winnipeg), Rae Lekness (Calgary), Blaire McDowell (Fernie, C.-B.), Hayley McKelvey (North Delta, C.-B.), Maria Eleni Mimides (Toronto), Kindred Paul (Edmonton) et Emma Wright (Whitby, Ontario).
Hélène Painchaud, from Montreal, will participate in the Worlds as a referee. In order to qualify for the Paris Olympics, the Canadian team must finish in the top 2 among nations not already qualified for the Olympics.
Australia, China, France, the Netherlands, South Africa, Spain and the United States already have their place in the Olympiad.
Another country will qualify during the European Championships, January 5-13. Before the Worlds, the Canadian team will make a stop in California for a training camp with the United States team.
Canada will then go to Brisbane to continue its preparation with the Australian team.
