After finishing in the top 3 at the opening of the para-alpine ski season the day before, Alexis Guimond once again shone on the slopes, winning a silver medal in downhill at the World Cup in Saint-Moritz, in Swiss. Her teammate Frédérique Turgeon also left her mark by winning bronze among the women.

“Very nice downhill round today (Sunday)! I had big ambitions and I had studied the route well. Throughout my descent, I had a lot of speed and I didn’t hesitate to take risks to try to get victory. », admitted the Gatineau resident when speaking about his performance.

We can say that it was mission accomplished for the one who said yesterday (Saturday) that he wanted to stay in the game today to improve his general ranking for the season as quickly as possible.

With a time of 1:9.94, Guimond finished second, just 1.59 seconds behind the winner, Switzerland’s Robin Cuche, who also won gold on Saturday. Frenchman Jordan Broisin completed the podium on Sunday (3.85 seconds).

“A second place is a good result and gives a lot of confidence for next week! My approach will be the same. I want to stay aggressive to perform well,” admitted the skier from Outaouais.

On the women’s side, Frédérique Turgeon managed to achieve her goal of breaking into the top 3 with a time of 1 min 17.11 s. She was beaten by the French Marie Bochet (1 min 15.85 seconds) and Aurélie Richard (0.05 seconds), respectively first and second in the final ranking.

Delighted with her performance, but nothing more, the skier from Candiac confided: “Honestly, I felt even better than yesterday! I’m really happy with the way I skied. My approach was good and I felt strong. »

“I wouldn’t say I’m 100% satisfied either, because I’d like that to be first! We will continue to work on this, but it is not unattainable. I am very encouraged! » added the woman who finished fourth in the women’s event on Saturday.

Para-skiers will be in action next week at the Para-Alpine Skiing World Cup which will take place in Austria, in Steinach am Brenner.
