Australian Open | Caroline Wozniacki receives an invitation

Former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki received one of the first invitations to the upcoming Australian Open, and she plans to bring her two young children to the place where she scored one of the biggest wins of her career. sporting career.

Wozniacki, the 2018 Australian Open champion, and six other Australian players have received the first invitations to the first major tournament of the season.

The 33-year-old returned to competition at the National Bank Open last August, after a break of more than three years. She played in Montreal and Cincinnati before reaching the fourth round of the U.S. Open, where she lost to the event’s eventual champion, American Coco Gauff.

“I have wonderful memories in Melbourne, and of course my victory at the Australian Open sits at the top of it all,” the Dane, who is ranked 242nd in the world this week, told the organizers of the Australian tournament on Wednesday.

Wozniacki earned his only career Grand Slam title in Australia two years before leaving the tour at the start of 2020 to start a family. She then accepted a position as a TV analyst, before becoming the mother of two young children with ex-NBA player David Lee.

Wozniacki said she plans to travel to Australia with her daughter, Olivia, and son, James.

“I’m so excited to share this moment with my family and my children,” she said.

Tournament director Craig Tiley announced in October that three former champions of the competition – Naomi Osaka, Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber – were scheduled to participate in the first Grand Slam tournament of 2024 after their maternity leave.
