Six years after having achieved enormous success in Quebec, the first season of Fugueuse is off to an excellent start on Netflix. Author Michelle Allen’s offering, directed by Éric Tessier and called Runaway in English, spent its first week firmly in the top 10 most popular titles on the video-on-demand service in Canada, behind The Crown and Squid Game: The Challenge. Other good news: the 10-episode series, which tells the story of a teenage girl on the run (Ludivine Reding) under the influence of a pimping rapper (Jean-François Ruel), has aged well. It’s still just as effective and engaging. And it’s the perfect excuse to listen again to the catchy Désirée by Yes McCan (now called Yes*).
Eleven years after the extraordinary first season, the famous series produced by BBC Studios returns to the air and takes over the Découverte time slot until January 21. The first two episodes (out of seven) are captivating and still as “fascinating”, as Charles Tisseyre, who provides the narration, would say. The journey begins in the far South: Antarctica, a continent blessed with killer whales with almost infallible hunting techniques, unlike polar bears, whose prey sometimes escapes, as evidenced by the (majestic) images collected. Later, the mating season of hooded seals is described, which try to seduce females by exposing their… nasal attributes.
The Cowboys Fringants will be omnipresent in the media space on Tuesday, with the national tribute to Karl Tremblay, which will be presented in the evening at the Bell Centre. At the same time, Télé-Québec will broadcast the group’s performance with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Simon Leclerc. Captured in the middle of a pandemic, in December 2020 (hence the masked musicians), this unique show reveals a new facet of the songs of the public’s favorite group, as evidenced by its trailer, where Karl Tremblay sings Merchant Marine with soprano Karina Gauvin. Baritone Dominique Gauvin also takes part in the meeting. This larger-than-life performance was also the subject of a live Cowboys album, launched in November 2022.
After three seasons and several interviews riddled with dropouts which have accumulated tens of thousands of views on Facebook, Club Soly is bowing out. Arnaud Soly confirmed the news on Facebook, emphasizing that it was a personal and heartbreaking decision, and that he wanted to avoid redundancy. We would have liked the comedian to continue the adventure (at least another year), but we respect his choice. Fortunately, the series ends in a beautiful way, with Jean-Thomas Jobin, Eve Landry and Éléonore Lagacé as special guests, a parody of Survivor Québec and, above all, a final meeting where Arnaud Soly multiplies the laughs with Pierre-Yves Roy- Swamps.
