(Abu Dhabi) Mercedes, eight-time constructors’ world champion in Formula 1, will continue to supply engines to McLaren until 2030, the two teams involved in F1 announced on Friday.

McLaren, powered by the German manufacturer since 2021, “will benefit from Mercedes-AMG engines from 2026 to 2030, thus becoming the brand’s first customer under the new regulations on power units from 2026”, they said. indicated the stables in a joint press release.

On this date, the engines, already hybrid since 2014, will see an increase in electric energy and will use 100% sustainable fuels.

McLaren and Mercedes were linked between 1995 and 2014, before the team resumed an unsuccessful collaboration with Honda between 2015 and 2017, then with Renault from 2018 for a three-year contract.

During its first Mercedes period, the team based in Woking (England) won the constructors’ title in 1998 and the drivers’ titles in 1998 and 1999 with Finn Mika Häkkinen and in 2008 with Briton Lewis Hamilton.

She has not been crowned since and has only won one race since 2012, with the victory in 2021 of Australian Daniel Ricciardo at the Italian Grand Prix.

In addition to McLaren, Mercedes also supplies engines to Williams and Aston Martin, which has already announced that it will be powered by Honda from 2026, the date on which Ford and Audi will join the grid – the first will power Red Bull, the second will join forces to Sauber (current Alfa Romeo).

In total, six engine manufacturers are announced on the grid on this date.
