Matthew Tkachuk, Aleksander Barkov and Carter Verhaeghe all had a goal and an assist Friday as the Florida Panthers defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2.

Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 28 pucks for his fourth straight win.

Uvis Balinskis scored his first NHL goal for the Panthers, while Kevin Stenlund added an empty-net goal.

Sam Reinhart had two assists for the Panthers.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Sebastian Aho scored the Hurricanes’ goals.

Antti Raanta made 29 saves.

The Panthers seem to have the better of the Hurricanes for a while, having won 10 of the last 12 meetings between the two teams.

Balinskis received a pass from Tkachuk and gave his team a 2-1 lead late in the first period.

Florida then remained in control, en route to a fourth victory in five games.

Evgeny Kuznetsov completed a double in an empty net on Friday as the Washington Capitals prevailed 4-2 against the New Jersey Devils.

Nicolas Aubé-Kubel and Beck Malenstyn scored 15 seconds apart during the first period.

Aubé-Kubel was recalled earlier Friday from Hershey of the American League.

Tom Wilson had two assists and Charlie Lindgren made 24 saves.

The Capitals improved their seven-game record to 5-1-1.

Timo Meier and Dawson Mercer fought back for New Jersey, beaten for the third time in four games.

The Devils were without their leading scorer Jack Hughes for a third game in a row. He is injured in the right shoulder.

They were also missing captain Nico Hischier, absent for a sixth meeting in a row.

He suffered an illegal hit to the head from the Sabres’ Connor Clifton on October 27.

Max Domi scored in the fifth round of the shootout and the Maple Leafs won 5-4 at the expense of the Calgary Flames on Friday.

Toronto had let slip a 4-1 lead, acquired early in the middle period.

William Nylander (twice), John Tavares and Calle Jarnkrok were the Leafs’ regular scorers.

Joseph Woll stopped 24 shots.

Nylander’s team record for consecutive games with at least one point to start a season is now 14.

Connor Zary, Nikita Zadorov, A. J. Greer and Martin Pospisil responded for the Flames.

MacKenzie Weegar had two assists and Dan Vladar blocked 32 shots.

Domi scored in the top of the net in the shootout. Woll then sealed the win by stopping Dillon Dube’s shot.

JJ Peterka scored the deciding goal early in the third period on Friday, helping the Buffalo Sabers win 3-2 against the Minnesota Wild.

Peterka also took part in but Jeff Skinner.

Henri Jokiharju scored the other goal for the Sabres, who are 4-1-1 in their last six games.

Devon Levi blocked 31 shots, being foiled by Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek.

Filip Gustavsson made 22 saves for the Minnesota club, limited to two wins in its last eight games.

A shot from the Wild’s Jared Spurgeon hit the post at 19:50 in the third period.
