CF Montreal announced Thursday that it had “terminated its professional relationship” with the Argentine technician as head coach, effective immediately.

“Following the evaluation of the season, it was determined that this decision is optimal for the club in view of the 2024 season and the following,” writes the team management in a press release.

Assistant coach Sebastián Setti has also been relieved of his duties.

“The selection process for the next head coach for the 2024 season is underway,” indicates CF Montreal.

Sports director Olivier Renard will speak to the media at 1 p.m. at the Nutrilait Center.

The next CFM coach will therefore be his 10th in 13 seasons in MLS. It’s a lot.

But in the case of Losada, we felt that the carrots were cooked from the club’s end-of-season report last month. Several players had mentioned that things had to change over the next year, both in tactics and in the way of communicating them.

While Samuel Piette did not see the idea of “starting from scratch” with a new coaching staff for 2024 as a good omen, he also agreed that the team was “not two or three details away from winning the Cup MLS”.

Victor Wanyama, the club’s only designated player, had arrived back on the podium a few minutes earlier. He was angry with Losada and the fact that he “didn’t fully understand” why he was left off the field in the second half of the season.

CF Montreal has had a disastrous start to the season, with six defeats in seven games. Their end of the calendar was just as complicated, with only one victory in nine games. In particular, he was completely downgraded during his matches abroad.

This away trend in 2023 was one of the main causes of the early elimination of CF Montreal. And this is the main element that was raised by the club’s sports management and by president Gabriel Gervais to explain Losada’s failures this year.

Neither Renard nor Gervais gave the Argentine a vote of confidence when they had the opportunity in recent weeks.
