The Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal is joining forces with the “Movement to End Homelessness in Montreal” with the aim of mobilizing the business community to “prevent and counter homelessness in Montreal”.

To do this, the Chamber and the Movement are forming a working group called “Affaires-MMFIM” whose main objective will be to bring the business community to “take concrete actions to actively involve economic actors in the fight against ‘homelessness in Montreal’.

In the opinion of Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal, “we have seen a deterioration in the homelessness situation in Montreal, particularly in the city center. The pandemic has weakened a large number of our fellow citizens. This human distress requires general mobilization. »

Co-chaired by the Chamber of Commerce and the Movement, the “Business-MMFIM” working group will include stakeholders from the real estate and commercial sector in Montreal, such as the Urban Development Institute and the BOMA group, as well as the Montréal center- city and Tourism Montreal.

The working group will also count on the participation of homeless socio-community organizations such as the Maison du Père and the Old Brewery Mission, as well as the Social Development Corporation and the L’Itinéraire Group.

According to Michel Leblanc, “the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal has shown in the past that it is capable of quickly and effectively mobilizing the business community on complex subjects. We put this strength at the service of the Movement to End Homelessness.”

At the direction of this Movement, Geoffrey Kelley, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MMFIM, says “we applaud this desire of the Montreal business community to invest with us in the research and implementation of sustainable and innovative solutions to prevent and counter homelessness in Montreal”.

According to Mr. Kelley, “the synergy between the expertise of our members in social organizations and players in the Montreal business community can only bring results.”
