(Montreal) Yamina Lahyanssa was feverish before participating in the Premier League tournament which brings together the best karatekas on the planet. Friday, in Dublin, the Montrealer concluded this first experience on the senior international scene with a record of 1 victory and 1 defeat in the under 50 kg table.

The 21-year-old made the jump to the senior ranks this year and took the opportunity to gain experience in the Irish capital ahead of the World Championships and Pan American Games this fall. She first defeated Malaysian Shahmalarani Chandran 5-2 and then lost 11-3 against Ukrainian Yuliia Palashevska (Ukraine).

“It’s not the result I wanted, but at least I know what I will have to correct in the next competitions. It was a good experience against the best 30 in the world. There was stress because it was my first time. »

Commenting on her defeat, she clarified that she did not fight as usual, even if she added that she felt in her place.

“I was early. It wasn’t because I wasn’t up to standard, but because I didn’t manage the match well. I did some tests and the things that didn’t work, I’ll work on them even more for the competitions to come, ”continued the one who had reached the semi-final round of the world juniors last year.

The Quebecer was crowned at the Senior Pan American Championships last spring, which allowed her to obtain her first ticket to this Premier League tournament.

In the men’s under 60 kg draw, Montreal’s Yassin Miri lost 3-0 to Germany’s Florian Haas and 4-1 to France’s Rayyan Meziane. He was then declared the winner in a tiebreaker of a 3-3 match against Sureeya Sankar Hari Sankar of Malaysia.

On Saturday, it will be Lily-Rose Nolet’s turn to fight in the over 68 kg category.
