(New York) Ontario’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her New Zealand partner Erin Routiliffe qualified for the U.S. Open women’s doubles final on Friday.
Dabrowski and Routliffe achieved the feat thanks to a victory in two sets of 6-1, 7-6 (4) against the tandem of Taiwanese Su-Wei Hsieh and Chinese Xinyu Wang on Friday.
Almost three months ago to the day, Hsieh and Wang won the women’s doubles final of the French Open — another Grand Slam tournament — against the duo of Laval’s Leylah Fernandez and American Taylor Townsend.
Dabrowski and Routliffe won 62% of points after placing their first service ball in play. They also converted seven of their nine break chances.
“The key remains the same: play as one no matter what happens,” Dabrowski said. We played very intelligently and that helped us a lot, especially at the start of the match. »
Dabrowski, who has two Grand Slam mixed doubles triumphs, has yet to win a women’s doubles title at a major tournament.
Their rivals in the final will be the German Laura Siegemund and the Russian Vera Zvonareva, winners 6-4 and 6-1 against the American Jennifer Brady and the Brazilian Luisa Stefani.
The ultimate match will be presented at Arthur-Ashe stadium on Sunday.
