(LA) Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias was arrested Sunday near BMO Stadium, where Lionel Messi was playing an MLS game in front of many celebrities.
Exposition Park Public Security said its officers arrested Urias around 11 p.m. She did not want to immediately reveal the nature of the charges against the athlete. Details were to be released later on Monday.
Urias posted $50,000 bail, being released shortly before 5 a.m. Monday morning, according to information from the Los Angeles County Sheriff.
Urias is due in court on September 27.
The 27-year-old Mexican was arrested in May 2019 for domestic violence. He was suspended for 20 games by Major League Baseball, but was not formally charged by Los Angeles prosecutors on the condition that he complete a 52-week domestic violence prevention program.
The Dodgers traveled to Miami on Monday for a series against the Marlins which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday. Urias was to be on the mound for the last duel of this one, Thursday.
“We are aware of the incident involving Julio Urias,” the Dodgers said in a statement. While we’re trying to learn all the facts, he won’t be traveling with the team. »
Urias is 11-8 with a 4.60 ERA this season. He is playing under a one-year, $14.25m contract. He helped the Dodgers win the World Series at the end of the 2020 season, which was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The southpaw had his best season in 2021, leading the National League with a 20-3 record.
