The Union of Quebec Writers has a new Executive Director. Geneviève Lauzon thus takes over from Angelica Carrero, who had been acting in recent months, replacing Laurent Dubois.

Holder of a master’s degree in French studies from the University of Montreal, Ms. Lauzon has worked throughout her professional career at the UNEQ, climbing all the levels since her hiring in 2000 as a secretary-receptionist. She has since been responsible for dissemination and training programs in addition to holding the position of director of member services and professional relations. Alongside her work with the organization, she has herself published two novels: Un amour de Soeur (Lanctôt éditor) in 2002, finalist for the Archambault literary prize for the next generation, and C’est fou comme une phrase (Lanctôt editor) in 2005. She has also contributed several texts in collectives.

As part of her duties, Geneviève Lauzon has thus actively contributed to the implementation of several training tools in addition to participating in the improvement of dissemination programs such as “tours-meetings”, “Parlez-moi d’une language ! or “Culture at school”.

“Thanks to her vast experience, Geneviève Lauzon knows UNEQ like the back of her hand,” UNEQ president Pierre-Yves Villeneuve wrote in a statement. She has a deep knowledge of the literary world, the challenges faced by writers and the upcoming projects for the union. There is no doubt for the Board of Directors that she will be able to consolidate the UNEQ team, restore the confidence of the members in the organization, and that under her leadership, the UNEQ will be able to fully assume its role as Association of Literary Artists. »

As Executive Director, Ms. Lauzon intends to continue consulting members with a view to resuming collective agreement negotiations, while working to overhaul UNEQ’s statutes and regulations as well as the eventual implementation of Square of the House of Writers.
