(Paris) Claude Ruiz Picasso, son of the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso, has died, his lawyer Jean-Jacques Neuer announced Thursday in a statement to AFP.

He “died in Switzerland, at the age of 76”, he added, without specifying the causes of his death.

Claude Ruiz Picasso had been administrator from 1989 to 2023 of the Picasso estate, which manages the rights related to the artist and his work. Last July, he had wished to retire and leave his place to his sister Paloma, who had been appointed administrator.

Pablo Picasso had four children: Paul, his eldest son, born of his union with Olga Khokhlova and who died in 1975; Maya, daughter of Marie-Thérèse Walter, who died in 2022, Claude and Paloma, born of her union with Françoise Gilot.

“Claude Ruiz Picasso leaves his wife, Sylvie Vautier marries Picasso and two children Jasmin and Solal,” Neuer added.

The Picasso estate holds the monopoly of copyright and reproduction rights of Picasso’s works, as well as personality rights, moral rights and trademark rights. It issues authentication certificates and fights against fakes, regularly taking legal action.
