(Chicago) In the hunt for the last playoff spot in the American, the Seattle Mariners are now one game ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Mariners scored five first-inning runs Monday in Chicago en route to a 14-2 win over the White Sox.

Seattle sent 10 batters to the plate in the first, facing Touki Toussaint (1-6).

The right-hander was kicked out after four innings. Toussaint gave up seven runs and seven hits, not to mention four walks and a wild pitch.

“They were waiting for me,” Toussaint said after the game. They were patient. I have to do better at throwing strikes, especially against teams that are patient. »

Cal Raleigh drove in six runs for the Mariners, who were winning a seventh straight game. He hit two home runs including a three-run, as well as a two-run double.

“We’ve had some good times at bat,” Raleigh said. We take our bases on walks. When pitchers make mistakes, we take advantage of them. That’s what happens when you play good clean baseball. »

“Everyone contributes,” Mariners manager Scott Gervais said. This has been happening for a few weeks here. »

The White Sox lost their fourth consecutive game.

The first two batters of the match had bases on balls, before a single from Ty France. A bad throw cost a run, then Raleigh added their double.

Another runner scored when a throw from the catcher to second base ended up in center field, then Josh Rojas completed the push with a run single.

In the fifth, Raleigh and former Blue Jays Teoscar Hernandez homered back-to-back.

Two innings later, Hernandez scored two runners with a single.

The right fielder has nine RBIs in his last seven games.

Dominic Canzone also had a cannon shot for the winners.

Luis Castillo (10-7) struck out nine batters in seven innings, not allowing a walk. He allowed one run and five hits.

Star outfielder Julio Rodriguez had a break after a torrid streak. He’s batted .667 in his last five games, with two homers and eight RBIs.

The Mariners were starting a three-game series at Guaranteed Rate Field.

The club is also in the hunt for a divisional title, battling it out with the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers.

The Blue Jays will play in Baltimore Tuesday through Thursday.
