(Montreal) Denis Shapovalov, Vasek Pospisil, Gabriel Diallo and Alexis Galarneau will represent Canada in the Davis Cup Finals round robin next month.

The Canadian team, which will defend its title, will play in Group A alongside Italy, Sweden and Chile.

The event will be held at the Unipol Arena in Bologna, Italy, from September 12-17.

Canada will face Italy on September 13, Sweden on September 14 and Chile on September 16.

“Canada achieved a dream by winning its first Davis Cup,” said captain Frank Dancevic. We have proven that we can achieve great things and our team is preparing to seize another opportunity to shine.

“We know how hard it is to win the Davis Cup, especially twice in a row. But I really believe that with this team, anything is possible. »

Shapovalov, 24, will represent Canada for the ninth time in his career. His Davis Cup record is 14-9.

In the league encounter against Australia last year, he got the better of Thanasi Kokkinakis, then Félix Auger-Aliassime sealed victory by beating Alex de Minaur.

Shapovalov, 22nd in the world, has not played since the knockout stages of Wimbledon.

Pospisil, 168th, was selected to the team for the 24th time in his career.

The 33-year-old British Columbian played a big role in Canada’s triumph last year, winning five of his seven games.

21-year-old Montrealer Diallo is 134th. He will participate in the Davis Cup for the third time.

Diallo scored his first win in the main draw of an ATP tournament last Tuesday in Toronto.

Galarneau, 24, will defend the colors of Canada for the fourth time at the Davis Cup.

Ranked 196th, he won his first professional title in July, at the Granby Challenger.

The round robin has four groups of four countries.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.

The final stage of the competition will take place from November 21-26, in Malaga, Spain.
