Agreement between Tottenham and Bayern Munich | Harry Kane must decide

Harry Kane has a big decision to make.

The England captain must choose between staying at Tottenham, the English club where he has been playing since 2004, or moving to German giants Bayern Munich.

The two clubs have reportedly agreed a deal over Kane’s transfer for over €100m (over C$147m) and it’s now up to the striker to decide.

Neither club has yet officially commented on the tentative agreement. Tottenham have previously indicated that Kane is not for sale, but talks with Bayern have been ongoing for a few weeks.

Kane, the second-highest scorer in Premier League history with 213 goals, is entering the final year of his contract with Spurs and could leave as a free agent in 2024. This adds pressure on Tottenham to sell him this summer if the club wishes to obtain compensation for its star player.

The Londoner reached the Champions League final with Tottenham in 2019 but never lifted a major trophy with the club, whose progress has stalled. An eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season prevented the team from qualifying for continental competitions.

The three-time top scorer in the English league could prove key to reviving Bayern, who lost their main threat in the center with the departure of Robert Lewandowski to FC Barcelona last season.

Bayern needed differential to edge past Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga after a turbulent season, in which their top scorer was Serge Gnabry with 14 hits. Two years ago, Lewandowski scored 41 goals.

If Kane accepts the transfer, it will also be a symbolic moment for England, whose players are rather reluctant to leave the riches of the Premier League.

No England captain has played for a club outside the country since David Beckham, who joined Real Madrid in 2066. In his last game following the withdrawal of Real midfielder Jude Bellingham through injury , the starting lineup was made up solely of players from the legendary English circuit.

Kane’s name has long been linked with Manchester United. The club, however, opted for a younger option in Rasmus Hojlund, who joined the club for £64m (CDN110m) last week.

Tottenham are due to start their season this Sunday at Brentford.
