National Bank Open | The rain comes to Montreal, then leaves

As announced in the weather forecast, the rain has already delayed the games at the National Bank Open on Monday.

Play was suspended shortly before 1 p.m., and resumed around 2:25 p.m. Only one match, that between the Italian Jasmine Paolini and the Croatian Donna Vekic, could be completed. Paolini won 7-6 (7/3), 6-2. Two more duels were then completed.

Then, around 3 p.m., games were suspended again. The showers gained strength at 4:15 p.m., before stopping an hour later.

Play resumed at 6 p.m. Environment Canada announces 100% risk of showers and thunderstorms in Montreal for the evening, and this, until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, but the radar screens were encouraging for the start of the evening.

The chance of precipitation then increases to 80% for Tuesday morning and afternoon.

On the central, the 16th seed, Victoria Azarenka, had time to begin her first round duel against the Polish Madga Linette. Azarenka won the first set 6-3, before retreating to the locker room. On the restart, Azarenka was quick, winning the second set 6-0.

The delays caused by the rain have led to changes in the schedule. The duel between Jennifer Brady and Jelena Ostapenko, scheduled for the afternoon at the center, has been rescheduled on field no. 9. This means that the Azarenka-Linette clash has concluded the day session.

The evening session will then begin – not before 7 p.m. – with the all-American clash between Venus Williams and Madison Keys. The Canadian Rebecca Marino and the British Katie Boulder will play the last duel of the evening on the central, if the weather cooperates.
