VigiEau: the new platform to know the water restrictions near you

This Wednesday, July 12, 2023, 84 departments are in a drought situation, according to the government site Propluvia. In almost 66, restrictions on the use of water are in force. It must be said that since the “exceptional” summer of 2022, the water tables have not recharged sufficiently. 68% of them “are below normal for the season”, explained Christophe Béchu, Minister of Ecological Transition, on France Inter.

This is why, on March 30, Emmanuel Macron presented a “water plan”, for resilient and concerted water management, of 53 measures. One of them concerned the possibility for each French person to follow the map of prefectural decrees on the use of water more easily. However, this Tuesday, July 11, Christophe Béchu announced the launch of VigiEau, an internet platform to find out in real time about the water restrictions imposed near your home.

Launched by the citizens’ collective LaReserve.tech and the government, the platform is available at Vigieau.gouv.fr and soon via the Météo France application, reports Capital. In addition to being easily accessible, the maps available on the site are “more up-to-date than those of Propluvia”, emphasizes Christophe Béchu.

To find out about the situation in your municipality, simply enter your postal address to find the level of alert in force (vigilance, alert, heightened alert, or crisis). Depending on the level of alert, the site specifies the measures to be taken, whether in terms of everyday eco-gestures or more drastic restrictions (prohibition of watering lawns, washing vehicles, etc.). The platform recalls that “compliance with the instructions is mandatory under penalty of a fine of 1,500 euros”.
