(Pebble Beach) Allisen Corpuz shot 69 to win the U.S. Women’s Open by three strokes on Sunday, earning her first LPGA title.

Corpuz became the first American in 20 years to claim her first victory at this major tournament. The most recent case was Hilary Lunke at Pumpkin Ridge in 2003.

A 25-year-old golfer from Hawaii, Corpuz totaled 279, minus nine. She collected six birdies, two of which were consecutive, in the second half of the course.

Walking down the aisle on 18th, she was able to contemplate the beauty of the Pacific Ocean, to her left, but also savor being the first winner of the tournament on this ground. Indeed, the prestigious tournament took place at Pebble Beach for the first time.

Corpuz pocketed two million, the biggest purse in the history of major LPGA tournaments.

She is the only player to have done better than par in all four rounds.

Charley Hull (66) scored an eagle, finishing second with Jiyai Shin (68). Canadian Brooke Henderson finished 12th with a 72 for 291.

Defending champion Minjee Lee finished 13th by virtue of a 75, her worst card of the week.

She slipped on the board due to a three-bogey four-hole streak on the back nine.

The next LPGA tournament will be the Dana Open in Ohio, beginning Thursday. The defending champion is Gaby Lopez.
