(Chicago) Whit Merrifield hit two homers and the Toronto Blue Jays won 5-4 against the White Sox on Thursday night, sweeping a doubleheader in Chicago.

Merrifield hit two solo homers, ending the night with four homers this season.

His first homer made it 1-0 in the second inning.

His second tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth. One set later, Vladimir Guerrero broke the tie with a one-run double.

Guerrero pushed home plate Bo Bichette, who scored four of the visitors’ 16 hits.

Matt Chapman also slammed a gun for the Jays, who got their third straight win.

Eloy Jimenez hit a two-run homer for Chicago, which was losing for the fifth time in six games.

The win went to reliever Jay Jackson (1-0) and the save to Nate Pearson—his first in major league baseball.

Prior to Pearson’s arrival, Tim Mayza struck out three of the four batters he faced.

The loss went to reliever Nick Padilla (0-1).

In Game 1, a six-run 11th inning for the Jays gave them a 6-2 win.

Bichette and George Springer singled out a run in the 11th inning.

The Jays had only one hit before a breakthrough at the expense of Aaron Bummer (3-2).

With Cavan Biggio as the automatic runner at second base, Danny Jansen started the 11th with a soft hit to third base for a single.

Springer then broke the deadlock by knocking the ball through the mound.

Bichette, Daulton Varsho and Guerrero followed up with more one-point singles. Biggio then pushed two runners home with a double.

During the Sox’s turn at bat, Oscar Colás slammed a one-run double and scored on a single from Andrew Vaughn.

Jordan Romano (4-4) pitched in the 10th, then Thomas Hatch and Yimi Garcia completed the job in the 11th.

Lance Lynn struck out 11 in seven innings. He allowed just one hit, a Springer single in the third.

Lynn has 41 strikeouts in his last four outings.

José Berríos also allowed one hit in seven innings, having six batters at bat.

He allowed a single to Elvis Andrus in the third inning.

Also in third, Springer made a brilliant catch by diving to right field, at the expense of Zach Remillard.

Alejandro Kirk pinned Andrus on a steal attempt at second base in the sixth inning.

Toronto will play Detroit on Friday. It will be the return of right-hander Alek Manoah, after a spell in the minor leagues. He will be opposed to Dylan Cease.
