(Miami) Matt Chapman homered and doubled, Kevin Gausman allowed three runs in six innings on the mound and the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Miami Marlins 6-3 on Wednesday.

Cavan Biggio took over from Bo Bichette, who was dropped shortly before the game, and hit a double and a single for the Blue Jays. Bichette, who leads the American League with 101 hits and played in each of the Blue Jays’ first 75 games, was plagued with a thumb problem in his left hand.

“It bothered him, so we didn’t want to take a chance. And we’re off Thursday, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said. We’ll see how it goes once we get back to Toronto. »

The Jays won the last two games of the series, after being corrected 11-0 on Monday.

“Hopefully it will continue like this,” Schneider said. It’s a team effort. It goes beyond a hit here and there. We all have to go in the same direction. »

Luis Arraez was 2-for-5 for the Marlins. He leads the Majors with a .398 batting average.

Gausman (7-3) scatter eight hits and strikeout six in his 12th start of at least six innings. Jordan Romano closed the books in ninth and was credited with a 22nd save.

Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara had another tough outing. The reigning National League Cy-Young Trophy winner gave up five runs and 10 hits over seven innings, boosting his ERA to 5.08.

Alcantara (2-6) has allowed at least 10 hits in each of his last two starts.

Back-to-back doubles from Chapman and Biggio got the ball rolling on a Blue Jays five-run push in the second inning. Biggio then crossed home on a Kevin Kiermaier single. George Springer added a two-run single, before scoring on a Whit Merrifield single.

The Blue Jays were leading 5-0 then and were never bothered after that.

Prior to the game, the Blue Jays removed Brandon Belt’s name from the injured reserve. The 35-year-old infielder was sidelined with inflammation in his left thigh.

Belt was 1-for-4, with two strikeouts.

To make room for him in their roster, the Blue Jays traded Spencer Horwitz to their AAA-level affiliate.
