The American, in search of his first Major title, returned a card of 68 (-10 in total) after his record run the day before (62). Despite committing six bogeys (eight birdies), he completed the second lap alone in the lead.

Just behind him, Wyndham Clark, winner last month of his first tournament on the PGA Tour, signed a 67 (-9), and is ahead of the duo Rory McIlroy-Xander Schauffele, on the third step of the podium at -8.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is in the game (8th at -5), quite the opposite of No. 2 Jon Rahm (49th), who, with a card of 73 (2 in total), was only one down. shot to miss the cleaver.
