Food recalls are often prompted by the suspicion of the presence, or detection, of Listeria monocytogenes. This bacterium is the infectious agent responsible for listeriosis. It has the ability to colonize food manufacturing sites thanks to its presence in water, soil, plants and in the intestines of many animals.

Listeriosis is a serious infection with an incubation period of up to eight weeks. It can lead to sepsis or infection of the central nervous system. In pregnant women, it can cause abortion, premature delivery or serious neonatal infection.

People who have consumed the products mentioned below and who have fever, isolated or accompanied by headaches, and body aches, are invited to consult their doctor and inform him of the consumption of potentially contaminated products.

In France, the disease remains rare: there are approximately 350 cases of listeriosis declared per year in mainland France. However, it is fatal in 30 to 40% of cases occurring outside of pregnancy. For those at risk, in order to prevent listeriosis, dairy products should be avoided.
