Lizzo is finally back in Montreal on Sunday, just over a month after having had to postpone her concert at the Bell Center the same evening due to health problems.

Singer Lizzo’s tour, The Special 2our, is coming back to Montreal, and fans La Presse spoke to rejoiced that the moment had finally arrived.

For most, this is a more than expected moment, since the singer was to be at the Bell Center in early May. The same evening, with only two hours notice, the interpreter of Juice had to cancel his performance due to health problems.

“I had bawled about it,” says Véronique Babin, met Sunday in front of the Bell Center. The young woman had come from New Brunswick to attend this concert. After hours of travel, she had learned, “while we were two minutes from the Bell Center”, that the concert was postponed to a later date.

“It was 100% sure we were going to be back,” she says today, visibly excited to finally get to see the one she’s “a huge fan of.” “She’s a really good human being,” Veronique says, explaining her affection for the singer. I love her music and especially the values she defends. »

The radiant mood of Véronique Babin is palpable among many other people in line in front of the arena entrance. Holly Anderson and Rosalie-Mae Gionet, respectively from Montreal and Rawdon, had also shed tears when they learned, in the taxi to the Bell Center, that Lizzo’s concert would not take place in early May. “I’m a single mom and it was a surprise night,” says Rosalie-Mae, who is attending her first-ever concert tonight. A moment just for me. »

Fortunately, Lizzo had assured that she would be in Montreal as soon as possible to recover and she kept her promise. “Thinking about COVID, I got used to seeing artists just cancel their gigs, so it was a nice surprise that it came so quickly,” Holly says.

Marie-Claude Barriault had offered tickets to see Lizzo to her daughter Léana for her 9th birthday. They had been disappointed when they learned, at the door of the Bell Centre, that Lizzo was too sick to sing, but Marie-Claude knew that they would try to come back if the new date suited their schedules. “She’s really an artist that we like, who has great values in what she sings,” says the mother.

Another mom, Michelle, arrived from Toronto on Sunday after a long drive. The mother-daughter duo went to great lengths to match their make-up and clothing to the flamboyant theme of a Lizzo concert. “As for the future, [Léana] wanted it to be Lizzo worthy [digne de Lizzo]”, laughs Michelle.

Zara, holding a sign saying “I love Lizzo,” is sure she’s going to have a great time. Smiling, the duo rushes into the Bell Center for an evening that will surely be worth the wait.
