(Montreal) A recall is being made on jars of Saladitos brand lupins, distributed in Quebec, due to the possible presence of dangerous bacteria, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced on Saturday.

Clostridium botulinum bacteria could grow in these products. It can be responsible for botulism, a rare but serious disease.

Food contaminated with the toxin from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum does not necessarily have visible spoilage or a suspicious odor, but can still make you sick, the agency says.

The jars, with a capacity of 580 ml, must not be consumed, used, sold, served or distributed. They must be thrown away or returned to the place where they were purchased.

If a person has consumed the product and thinks they have been sick afterwards, the agency urges them to consult a health professional.

Symptoms of foodborne botulism in adults are facial paralysis or loss of facial expression, unresponsive or staring pupils, difficulty swallowing, droopy eyelids, blurred or double vision, difficulty speaking , slurred speech and a change in the sound of the voice or hoarseness.

In children, foodborne botulism can cause difficulty swallowing, slurred speech, generalized weakness and paralysis.

In severe cases, the disease can cause death.
