As indicated by BNB Paribas in its press release, “BNP Paribas, Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale and Société Générale will launch at the end of 2023 CASH SERVICES, a complete offer of local banking services common to the four banking brands: BNP Paribas, Crédit Mutuel, CIC and SG”.

But what is “Cash Services”, and what is the purpose of this project? Thierry Laborde, Deputy CEO of BNP Paribas, gives us the answer in an interview with AFP (Agence France Presse). Indeed, the latter explains to us that “the objective for Cash Services is to have more than 5,000 branch sites, with one or more automatic machines, to which we can add 2,000 non-branch sites, allowing cash withdrawals and deposits at all the customers of all the banks” of the consortium.

While the three banks: BNP Paribas, Société Générale, and Crédit Mutuel Alliance Fédérale, together have approximately 15,000 withdrawal points, the creation of a single distributor common to these three last would make it possible to reduce this figure to only 7,000 ticket machines. And this, for the end of 2025.

Fewer and fewer distributors are present on French territory, as our colleagues from BFMTV report. Indeed, according to the media, “the total number of distributors is already decreasing in France. The metropolis lost on average a little more than two per day in 2021. It had 47,853 ATMs at the end of this same year, according to the Banque de France, i.e. nearly 10% less than at the end of 2018”.

The implementation of the “Cash Services” project will benefit not only the customers of the banks concerned, but also the banks themselves. Indeed, several advantages are expected from its launch at the end of 2023, such as the reduction of operating costs for banks. Indeed, they will see their supply costs reduced in view of the number of distributors who will disappear. Just like their maintenance costs for these automatons, and their transport costs.

As far as the customers of these banks are concerned, they will experience certain advantages also thanks to “Cash Service”. the offer to which the latter subscribed), the creation of a single ATM for these three banks, should reduce the number of these “displaced” withdrawals.
