The 2023 tax return campaign is coming to an end this June. The form, accessible on the taxes.gouv site, has already seen two deadlines pass: that of Thursday, May 25 and that of June 1. The first concerned the departments numbered from 1 to 19 as well as non-resident households, while the second deadline was for the departments from 20 to 54.

Each year, an additional period of one week is granted in favor of the inhabitants of the departments not mentioned. Therefore, the Paris region or the overseas departments have until Thursday, June 8, 2023.

Forgot to file your tax return on time? The consequences are different depending on your situation. If you are eligible for automatic declaration, you have nothing to worry about. Simplified, this automated declaration concerns nearly 10 million households in France. “You have nothing to add or modify to the pre-filled information, you have nothing to do”, as explained by the General Directorate of Public Finances. Nevertheless, a check is required in the event of errors, omissions or to complete boxes for which you are potentially eligible.

In a second scenario, if you are not concerned by this automatic declaration, you will complete a late declaration. In other words, do not waste more time than you have already lost. This “late declaration” results in a 10% increase in income tax. As with homework at school, a penalty will be awarded if the delay gets longer.
