Revaluation of retirement pensions: how much will you receive in 2024?

spot_img

The revaluation of retirement pensions, i.e. their increase, whether basic or supplementary, is, in principle, carried out each year. For the basic retirement pension, this action generally takes place every January 1, at the same time as the solidarity allowance for the elderly (Aspa). In the case of the supplementary retirement pension for employees, the revaluation is carried out on 1 November. While many changes are planned for 2023, what will now happen for this revaluation in 2024? Explanations.

The revaluation of retirement pensions is generally awaited by retirees with impatience since it means an increase in their amount. For example, in 2023; basic pensions have been increased by 0.8%. The previous revaluation had taken place, exceptionally, in July 2022. In an inflationary context, it had risen to 4% to support households particularly hard hit by consecutive crises.

These rules thus apply to all basic pensions, including Ircantec, but do not concern supplementary pensions. Agirc-Arrco, as well as supplementary pensions for the liberal professions, have their own system of revaluation. Therefore, only your basic pension is revalued according to this scale, even if all of your pensions are taken into account to determine your rate. Faced with the pension reform, this system could also experience some changes.

For the time being, it is therefore still too early to know precisely the amount of the planned revaluation, knowing that it is inflation that mainly decides on this revaluation. It is therefore not excluded to see a strong increase in 2024. Indeed, in 2023, it is an increase of 4.8% which had been recorded to cope with galloping inflation.

To know how much the basic pension will be increased, it is therefore necessary to wait for future fluctuations in inflation. Among the data used, it is the average inflation (excluding tobacco) over 12 months, stopped in October 2023 and compared to the previous 12 months, which will set the tone for this future revaluation. A first indication will be known in the fall when the Social Security accounts are published.

In the case of the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension, it is also inflation that determines its increase, but also the evolution of the average salary per capita (SMPT). For this supplementary pension, the accounts closed at the beginning of October for an increase on November 1, 2023 are recorded.

Last year, the revaluation had peaked at 5.12%, above the forecasts made until that date. If it is still early to determine with certainty its increase, it could very well be again towards peaks, especially since the INSEE indices measuring the evolution of wages are around 4%.
