Eric Dupond-Moretti Minister of Justice: did he earn a better living when he was a lawyer?

Nicknamed “Acquittator” or even “the Ogre of the North”, Eric Dupond-Moretti was known for his exploits as a lawyer long before joining the government. The tenor of the bar has had a career paved with high-profile trials, such as that of Patrick Balkany, Georges Tron, Bernard Tapie, Karim Benzema and Abdelkader Merah.

On July 6, 2020, Eric Dupond-Moretti was appointed Keeper of the Seals in the Jean Castex government. If, for many, occupying the head of a ministry would suppose an increase in income, this is not the case of the former lawyer. On the set of the program “Quelle époque!”, broadcast on France 2 on Saturday June 3, 2023, he spoke of his drop in income since his debut in politics.

After 35 years in a lawyer’s robe, Eric Dupond-Moretti claims to have divided his income “by ten” since he became Minister of Justice. “It was very comfortable for me and maybe in a way a little too comfortable,” he explains to Christophe Dechavanne.

Very discreet about his heritage, the Minister of Justice owns a house in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) and 3.5 hectares of vines in Collioure (Pyrénées-Orientales). According to a Point article published in October 2020, Eric Dupond-Moretti declared 70,000 euros in fees when he was still a lawyer. And this, without counting its royalties and its tax-exempt investments.

In the documentary L’ogre de la justice broadcast, BFMTV told us that Eric Dupond-Moretti earns 10,136 euros gross monthly as Keeper of the Seals.
