Audrey Lamothe won a second bronze medal at the Artistic Swimming World Cup Super Final in Oviedo on Saturday in Spain. The Montrealer, who had placed third the day before in the technical solo, was back on the third step of the podium, this time in the free solo.

The podium was a copy and paste of Friday’s as Japan’s Yukiko Inui (252.2895) won ahead of Spain’s Iris Tio Casas (219.1000) and the Quebecer, who collected 191.6500 points .

Beyond this second podium in two days, Lamothe especially notes his progress made in recent weeks.

“I have reduced my number of deductions since the Montpelier stage [last month], so for that I am very satisfied. I’m also happy with how I performed the routine,” she explained.

“I remember that I gained a lot of confidence in myself. To perform in my first World Cup Super Final was a great pleasure. I think it served me well to gain experience. »

Unlike the day before in the technical solo, the 18-year-old athlete did not achieve a personal score in this free solo. That’s what she’ll be aiming for at the World Aquatics Championships in Japan next month.

The Worlds events promise to be tougher than this super final and they could be tougher if the athletes from Russia and Belarus get permission to be there. The international federation, World Aquatics, has formed a working group to look into their eligibility and is expected to announce its decision in July, just before the Worlds.

Also on Saturday, Canadians Jonnie Newman and Kenzie Priddell placed seventh in the technical duet.

Quebecers Lauriane Imbeau, Raphaelle Plante and Florence Tremblay will be part of the Canadian team that will take part in the mixed free team competition later that same day along with Sydney Carroll, Jonnie Newman, Kenzie Priddell, Claire Scheffel and Olena Verbinska.
