(Toronto) Quebec’s Matthew Bergeron, an offensive lineman who played with the Syracuse Orange in the NCAA, rose to the top of the Canadian Football League’s scouting office’s spring rankings ( LCF), unveiled Friday afternoon.

For Bergeron, a 6-foot-5, 318-pound colossus from Victoriaville, it’s a jump of four positions from the winter list, released in January.

Captain of his team, Bergeron has played 11 games in 2022; he’s allowed just four sacks in 686 snaps, and he’s only been penalized three times. He was named to the All-ACC Second Team and the Associated Press (AP) All-ACC Second Team.

He had 39 starts as a tackle in college; he’s the first freshman to get a start as a tackle for the Orange in the last 20 years.

Bergeron ousted Ontario running back Chase Brown of the University of Illinois, now second, ahead of teammate and twin brother Sydney, a defensive back. He too slipped a step.

In fourth is defensive lineman Tavius Robinson, an Ontarian who played with the University of Mississippi.

Quebecer Sidy Sow, an offensive lineman from Bromont and Eastern Michigan University player, completes the top-5.

Michaël Brodrique, a linebacker with the University of Montreal Carabins, is the highest-ranked player among Canadian U Sports network athletes, in 11th place.

Brodrique is from Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac.

Any team that chooses Bergeron, the Brown brothers, Robinson or Sow will probably have to wait before seeing them arrive in Canada. These five players are all expected to be claimed at the National Football League draft later in April after attending the league’s assessment camp in Indianapolis.
