It was following an alert about the chicken coops located near the Ivry-sur-Seine waste incinerator that the Île-de-France regional health agency (ARS) conducted a regional study on eggs from 25 henhouses in Île-de-France, 14 of which are located near incinerators in the Paris region, namely that of Ivry-sur-Seine, that of Issy-les-Moulineaux, and that of of Saint-Ouen.

This study, which focuses on levels of persistent organic pollutants, gives us disappointing results. Indeed, three families of pollutants have been discovered (dioxins, furans and PCBs), and this not only towards the incinerators, but also throughout the entire environment of the Ile-de-France region.

This is why since Wednesday, the ARS has recommended that we no longer eat eggs, and more generally that we no longer eat “animal products from uncontrolled domestic production”.

With eggs containing PCB at a very high level which exceeds 40 to 50 times the European regulatory thresholds for marketed eggs, two of the henhouses analyzed alert the ARS as indicated in its press release.

According to the ARS: “The regular consumption of food contaminated with dioxins and PCBs leads to a progressive impregnation of the body which can have long-term health effects.”

Indeed, several health risks have been highlighted as a result of this study, such as an increased risk of cancer as well as fertility disorders, diabetes and others.
