The Montreal Alliance added two players to the U Sports Canadian Elite Basketball League draft on Wednesday: Aryan Sharma and Bahaïde Haïdara.

Sharma was the second overall pick from the draft. The Ontarian had a strong season with Western University, recording 23.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game in 22 games. He received the Dr. Craig Boydell Trophy for Academic Excellence and Community Involvement at the end of the campaign.

“Aryan has proven himself to be one of the best players on the Ontario Tour and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop his skills at the professional level,” Alliance General Manager Joel Anthony said in a statement. communicated.

As for Haïdara, 19th selection overall, he spent three seasons in NCAA division 1 before joining UQAM this year, with which he played 16 games. The Montrealer averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He was named RSEQ Defensive Player of the Year and UQAM Male Athlete of the Year.

“Bahaïde has a wealth of NCAA Division 1 experience and brings a unique skill set to the team,” the GM added.

Both Sharma and Haïdara have been selected as U Sports development players. They will join the Alliance roster this summer and return to their respective universities after the LECB season.

Anthony says he’s “delighted” to build his team through the U Sports draft. Last year, the Alliance selected Quebecer Alain Louis, who will be back this season.

Recall that the Alliance training camp will begin in a month, on May 18. The Montreal squad will play its first game eight days later, on May 26, against the Niagara River Lions at the Verdun Auditorium.
