The 2022 tax return opened this Thursday, April 13 and you have between six to eight weeks to complete it, depending on the department where your main residence is located. As the tax site explains, “taxpayers over the age of sixty-five and disabled people of modest means can benefit, for the calculation of tax, from an abatement on taxable income”. Here is who can benefit from it, according to article 157 bis of the general tax code.

Please note, as the tax site specifies, this allowance “can only benefit people whose total income is taken into account for the calculation of taxable income in France, not those who, being domiciled abroad for tax purposes , are taxable in France only their income from French sources”.

The amount of the allowance you can benefit from depends of course on your overall net income. The latter is obtained after deduction “deficits of previous years and expenses of global income”, explains the tax site. “It does not take into account either capital gains taxed with income tax at a proportional rate or income subject to a withholding tax”, adds the site.
