(Saint Paul) The Minnesota Wild signed defenseman Brock Faber to a three-year entry-level contract on Sunday, a day after the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers lost in the final of the Minnesota Men’s Hockey Tournament. NCAA.
Faber was scheduled to travel with the Wild to Chicago for Monday’s matchup against the Blackhawks. The Wild still have three games to play in their season and the Central Division title is still within their reach.
The 20-year-old Faber has four goals and 23 assists in 38 games at Minnesota this season, his third with the Golden Gophers. A native of Maple Grove, Minn., he twice won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors.
The right-handed defenseman finished his college career with seven goals and 46 assists in 97 games, also posting a plus-54 differential.
Faber was a second-round draft pick by the Los Angeles Kings in 2020. Last offseason, he was traded to the Wild along with a 2022 first-round pick for winger Kevin Fiala.
The Golden Gophers lost in overtime to the Quinnipiac University Bobcats on Saturday night.
