(Ottawa) Canadian Brad Gushue advanced to the semifinals of the world men’s curling championship on Saturday.
The St. John’s skip beat Sweden’s Niklas Edin 9-1 in a qualifying match at TD Place.
The team of Gushue, Mark Nichols, E.J. Harnden and Geoff Walker will next face Switzerland’s top-seeded Yannick Schwaller.
Scotsman Bruce Mouat will play against the winner of the qualifying match between Norwegian Magnus Ramsfjell and Italian Joel Retornaz.
The winners of the semi-finals will play for gold on Sunday afternoon, while the losing teams will play for bronze in the morning.
Edin defeated Gushue in the World Championship Finals last year in Las Vegas.
