Scams: the 6 techniques to watch out for in April

Calls, fake emails, SMS… All these techniques are now common to trick you. Indeed, phishing, also called “phishing”, consists of pretending to be an organization known to defraud. Thus, you may receive fake emails or SMS that invite you to respond or redirect you to a link. According to the National Printing Office (IN Groupe) observatory, 210,000 French people are affected by digital identity theft each year. Impersonating a large institution allows these hackers to convince you of the veracity of the request.

Added to this are the figures from INSEE concerning phishing. Thus, in 2019, 42.5% of French people testified to having received a fraudulent message. Between 2018 and 2019, 49.5% of people say they have been victims of or exposed to these techniques in France. Even more, 47.7% of them suffered these frauds more than three times. Over this same period, 71.8% reported to institutions tracking these identity thefts.

IN Groupe specifies that two techniques are particularly used by these scammers for phishing. The first is to send you an email. To make himself credible, the scammer uses the identity of a company or an administration. Discover in our slideshow below the organizations through which these pirates go through in April 2023. In these electronic messages, you are asked to provide your personal data such as your identifiers or your bank details.

Another technique is used: the use of fake profiles on social networks. The scammer pretends to be someone close to you, a known person or one of your suitors. He then claims a sum of money for various reasons. But, how do you protect yourself against it? You can already pay particular attention to the spelling and syntax used. Also check the email address.

Also do not click on links and delete the received message. If you are not sure, you can always contact the person or organization in question to find out if it is really them. Finally, you can find out which organizations are most affected so that you can be more vigilant when you receive an email sent by them.

Check out our slideshow below to find out which techniques scammers are using this month.
