If summer generally rhymes with tanning, holidays and relaxation, it also goes hand in hand with mosquitoes and ticks. These small insects feed on the blood of animals and humans. And to make matters worse, with the onset of heat, both mosquitoes and ticks proliferate in our regions.

“The mosquito causes itching, redness and a blister of 5 mm, if you have an allergy”, explains to Santé Magazine, Aline Légipont, pharmacist. As for ticks, these cling to the skin by biting it, indicates the website of the Health Insurance, then gorge themselves with blood.

The two insects are vectors of disease, indicate Health Magazine as the site of the Health Insurance. If the tick is infected with Borrelia bacteria, the person bitten is at risk of contracting Lyme disease.

On the mosquito side, three diseases are potentially contractable after the bite, if the mosquito is contaminated: the zika virus, dengue fever and chikungunya. These diseases are dangerous, even fatal.

According to the media Health Magazine, you must get rid of stagnant water, because it is the breeding ground for mosquitoes. Empty gutters, plant cups and garden tools that collect water. To avoid getting bitten, wear light but long-sleeved clothes or pants, prepare mosquito traps and repellents.

For ticks, the Health Insurance site, Ameli, recommends staying on cleared paths and trails, avoiding brush and not sitting on the ground. There is no magic recipe to avoid being bitten by a tick. It is better to avoid going through places at risk. Planet has compiled a list of areas where it is better not to go in summer, at the risk of being stung or bitten, according to the Femme Actuelle media. Discover them in our slideshow.
